The Story Behind Central Audio Visual’s Four-Decade Legacy

In 1982, Glenn Spear launched Central Video Hire with just a few dollars and a big vision. What began as a small VHS rental and hire business quickly evolved into something more. Glenn’s purchase of a professional video camera, tripod, and editing suite marked a turning point—opening the door to South Australia’s live event industry. 

From modest premises on South Road, Glenn built a reputation for reliability and ingenuity. As demand grew, so did the company—first into larger premises, and then into the purpose-built facility in Thebarton where Central Audio Visual operates today. With every step, Glenn shaped the business around a simple philosophy: Four decades later, Glenn’s philosophy still guides the team: 

“Deliver good, honest service to people who want to work with you. Treat your team the way you want to be treated. And always reinvest in your business like you’re going to live forever.”

Timeless Values in a High-Tech World

Today, Central Audio Visual reflects those same values. While technology has evolved dramatically since the early days of VHS and overhead projectors, our commitment to genuine service and quality equipment remains just as strong. 

And yes—if you venture into our warehouse, you might just spot some of Glenn’s original equipment still tucked away on the shelves for nostalgic reasons, like old friends with good stories too good to throw out.
